Recent Trinity Mirror Solutions recruit Emma Callaghan penned her first blog for industry body Newsworks last week.
Emma, Group Account Director in Trinity Mirror Solutions' agency hub teams, joined from agency PHD in June. In her blog she explained why she's drawn to the "fast-paced, exciting, crazy, scary and utterly amazing world" of newspapers.
“Newspapers (and I mean that in terms of any form) are really remarkable things. I thought I had a good idea of how it all worked before I started this role, but I have learned an incredible amount over the past four months.
“We at Trinity Mirror Solutions (and I think I can safely speak for the rest of the market here as well) have a challenge on our hands, but what we also have is a brilliant opportunity. The future for us is in better understanding our vast digital audience and is in our creative work - the content partnerships and brand stories delivered through our invention team.“…I think it's amazing that around seven million people still make a conscious decision to put their hands into their pockets and buy a national newspaper every single day. That's more people than watch an episode of The X Factor.”
Emma also compared the challenges facing publishers with those of an agency.
“In many ways, publishers are facing a very similar challenge to agencies – put simply, how to run an effective and profitable business and retain their clients' investment in a time when digital disruption is constantly changing the boundaries and landscape.
“In fact 'the dark side' really isn’t that different. As a commercial team we want the same end result as agencies do – to create cost effective, engaging, award winning solutions for brands, which deliver results.”
